Exmortus
Exmortus
The Southern California quartet EXMORTUS — whose invigorating twin-guitar mix of neoclassical shred, Bay Area thrash, progressive death and traditional heavy metal has earned the group a devoted following.
Co-founded a decade ago by then-teenage cousins Conan (vocals/guitar) and Mario Moreno (drums), EXMORTUS self-released several demos and EPs before signing with Heavy Artillery Records in 2007. The group’s 2008 debut “In Hatred’s Flame” and 2011 follow-up “Beyond The Fall Of Time” earned praise for their “frighteningly aggressive thrash blended with both death metal and NWOBHM bluster” (Blabbermouth), and their exuberant, shred-heavy live performances can convert even the most jaded heshers into enthusiastic headbangers.

In 2013 EXMORTUS announced their signing to Prosthetic Records (Lamb of God, All That Remains, Gojira) and began working on their most mature and best recording to date, “Slaves to the Sword”. Produced by Zack Ohren (All Shall Perish, Warbringer, Suffocation) at Castle Ultimate and featuring cover art from Philip Lawvere (Kreator, Celtic Frost) the album was released in February 2014 to overwhelming critical attention and stayed on Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal most requested chart for most of the year. The release was followed by a year mainly spent on the road criss-crossing the US on tours alongside Dark Tranquillity/Omnium Gatherum; Lich King; Flotsam & Jetsam; Hatchet/Cellador; Arsis/Allegaeon, culminating with an appearance at Knotfest and a televised performance as the musical guest on a LA KISS arena football game.

EXMORTUS recently released their next album, “Ride Forth”, on Jan. 8th, again produced by Zack Ohren and utilizing more killer artwork from Philip Lawvere. The band have taken what they learned on the road and are destined to top previous outings and continuing as Metal Sucks put it a “mix of thrash, death metal and shred that makes Exmortus absolutely irresistible”. The album, recorded late summer, was set-up by a limited-edition single “For The Horde” and fall tours supporting Kyng and Marty Friedman, in addition to being the house band on a couple episodes of The Night Time Show with Stephen Kramer Glickman. Prosthetic is firmly behind the group and has earmarked them as a key developing artist priority for the label.
Hatchet
Hatchet
Growing up in the San Francisco area suburbs as young metal heads can make it quite likely to take influence from the pioneers of metal that spanned the area in the 1980's. So it's no surprise that Hatchet describes their sound as "Pure, Uncompromising, Bay Area Thrash Metal".

Since hitting the Bay Area Metal scene in early 2007, Hatchet quickly made a name for itself. They worked hard to gig as often as they could and also not compete with, but group together bands of the like to help strengthen the scene. Focusing on playing with other young starting thrash bands in their area, the fan base grew. Eventually they reached out to the neighboring Los Angeles thrash scene which was also flourishing and invited various bands up to the bay area to diversify their shows, and spread overall thrash metal awareness.

After self-releasing two demos, the band's debut album, "Awaiting Evil", was released in mid-2008 via Metal Blade Records. The album was well-received by thrash enthusiasts around the globe and proved a great beginning for Hatchet. Since the release of the debut, the band has completed 3 full DIY U.S. tours that have helped put them on the map for up and coming thrash metal bands. Unfortunately in this time, the band also saw its share of lineup changes, which stalled overall progress of the group. Throughout the changes, founding member Julz Ramos always had the passion to keep the band going, even moving to take on vocal duties. Now in 2012, the band has never been stronger with its most dedicated, mature, and musically inclined members since its birth.

Their sophomore effort, "Dawn of the End", released on their new label, The End Records, showcases a much more aggressive and professionally oriented band. The group has stated its hunger to hit the road and prove that thrash metal is still a force to be reckoned with.
Immortal Guardian
Power metal band from Austin, Texas, formed in 2008.
Scattered Guts
Ruben Munoz / Derrick Davis / Zack Egan / Nick Albares / Vance Eastland

“Many bands struggle to find their own identity but Scattered Guts offers a fresh, yet familiar sound to the scene. Scattered Guts‘music is littered with heavy riffs and powerful vocals. Drummer Vance Eastland is an absolute monster at creating a relentless, driving beat. Derrick and Zack have a perfect harmony of low-register guitar riffs, laden with shredding-style guitar work.”
-Sandra Acosta-Roberts - Death Weddle Arizona Metal blog

“Describing themselves as "Arizona style stoner thrash", Scattered Guts appropriately formed on April 20, 2008. The band plays an aggressive style of thrash metal.”

"They're an energetic and charismatic group which sets them apart from most locals. They joked around in between jams and showed some good stage presence and choreography as well. Their sound is definite American death and dare I say Cannibal-esque"
